Often, the local barkeep knows all of the town’s stories, but Derek Dorsey has quite the tale of his own.
In between booking and promoting talent at The Fire on Girard Ave (shown buried in the Blizzard of 2009) Derek has been cultivating a passion for cycling. He competes in several races a year, and even met Lance Armstrong who told him to “keep riding and never stop.” A few years later, that advice would mean even more after Derek was involved in a bike wreck that damaged both of his knees. After two surgeries on his left, and another to repair torn cartilage in the right, Derek has never lost his competitive spirit and his love of two wheels.
That strength and determination is the hallmark of South Kensington and neighbors like Derek.
